Weir & Associates was established in Hong Kong in 1985 as an internationally-savvy  legal consultancy firm specializing in areas including assisting business in targeting and finalizing transactions and acquisitions and focusing on transactions between North America and Asia.  Since then, our firm has become a fully qualified Hong Kong law firm and has accepted off shore investment and advisory positions with a number of local corporations and individuals.

 

Our property work includes projects both in Hong Kong, Greater China and overseas.  In addition to the standard day-to-day individual purchase and sale transactions for both residential and commercial matters, we have also been involved in numerous substantial development projects.

 

Property transactions handled by our Hong Kong office include the sale and purchase of commercial blocks, residential blocks, large commercial complexes of shop units and several hundred car park spaces.  Over the past few years in the PRC, we have acted in many major commercial and residential property projects.

 

Overseas, we have been involved in the Canadian, the U.S.A., Portugese, Spain, Australia, New Zealand English property markets as well as China (Chung San, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Shenzhen),  Macau and in Spain.    Typical in such projects, we have acted as the solicitors in Hong Kong and have liaised with solicitors in the home jurisdiction to finalize the conveyancing.  Typically, we have attended to purchasers at our office to co-ordinate their execution of documents, to collect purchase monies and to generally deal with the conveyancing documentation.

 

With our substantial experience, we believe we can assist your firm and your clients with their international purchases, refinancing and leasing.  The majority of our solicitors in Hong Kong are also qualified in the United Kingdom and fully understand and appreciate the conveyancing system in effect.  In addition, we are supported by solicitors based in the host country with whom we have enjoyed ongoing working relationships. 

 

We are further able to offer assistance to your clients in the arrangement of mortgages.  We have strong relationships with international banks including a number of North American and European banks with substantial offices in Hong Kong.  As a rule, subject to income proof, these banks readily grant mortgages to Hong Kong residents wishing to purchase properties abroad. 

 

We are on the approved solicitors panel of over thirty financial institutions (see attached) and we are approved to act on mortgage, loan and/or litigation matters for these banks.

 

We have thirty-five (35) fee earners at our local Hong Kong office. Collectively, they are qualified in several jurisdictions including Hong Kong, the PRC, England, Australia, Canada, the USA, Singapore, the Philippine and Sri Lanka.  Our support staff, clerks and paralegals are fluent in many languages besides English, including Cantonese, Mandarin, Hakka (and other Chinese dialects), Singhalese, Nepali, Urdu, Hindi, Bengali and Tagalog as well as having a working knowledge of Japanese and French.

 

Weir & Associates has expanded its capabilities in Asia and North America, through an association with multinational law practices.  The association boasts lawyers in offices throughout the world including China (Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Shenzen and Xiamen), Korea (Seoul), India (Mumbai), Thailand (Bangkok), Taiwan (Taipei) and across Australia, Europe, the United States and Canada and are therefore, well positioned to assist clients in numerous jurisdictions in the region.
